  • Update: Per the We Need Diverse Books statement released on June 6, 2021, Charlesbridge and its imprints will no longer be using the term #ownvoices to refer to authors, illustrators, or their books. Instead, we will refer to specific identities as requested by the individual creators. As stated by the WNDB, “it is important to use the language that authors want to celebrate about themselves and their characters.” When we made these videos, we used the term #ownvoices to help those looking for authentic representation in books, but we now recognize that the term does not adequately meet that need. Math is for everyone, every day, and Charlesbridge’s mission with the Storytelling Math series is to empower children through representation that reflects the world around us.
