Children's Literature
Little Giraffe learns to express her gratitude with a “thank you.” As the animals prepare for the Harvest Party, Mama, Papa, and Grandma Giraffe teach Little Giraffe to say thank you and why. For instance, when Meerkat helps Little Giraffe clean up after getting dirty from digging up sweet potatoes, Papa asks Little Giraffe to say “thank you” because Meerkat is kind to help Little Giraffe. Speech bubbles are used for the verbal exchange among the characters. In the end, Little Giraffe demonstrates the understanding of the concept of expressing appreciation. At the back of the book, there is a note to parents that provide support and activities in helping children to learn and understand the concept. Also resources to websites are listed in fine print. Parents and teachers will find that the book provides a helpful way to support young children with their social and emotional development. This board book is part of the Chicken Soup for the Soul Babies collection on values.
